Welcome and thank you for visiting the website of the Friends of the Choo-Tjoe (the Friends). We hope you will find it interesting.The Friends, a non-profit organisation, was formed in August 2010 with the main object being the promotion of the repair and rehabilitation of the railway line between George and Knysna and revival of the operation of the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train on this railway line situated in the Garden Route of the Western Cape of the Republic of South Africa.
The restoration of the line and return of the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, while preserving one of the iconic railway lines in the world and steam locomotive activities for future generations, will attract international and local tourists with a direct benefit to business in the region and provide much needed downstream employment.An organisation such as the Friends is always in need of funding to continue their activities and finance projects. Should you wish to be associated with any project or merely show your support you can make a donation to the Friends.
